A Story of Recovery and Redemption.

Years after stepping away from the sport that both made and broke him, legendary jockey Ramon Moya returned to the world of thoroughbred racing under the guidance of Anthony R. Margotta Jr., a thoroughbred horse racing trainer haunted by his own past. Drawn together by a shared search for redemption, the two men are rebuilding their lives and reputations behind the scenes.

The Heart of Brother

The Patrick and Carlos Hope Initiative was founded by Anthony Margotta Jr. to honor the lives and legacies of Patrick Margotta and Carlos Aguiar—two beloved brothers whose lives were lost to addiction and substance abuse.

Patrick, Anthony’s brother, passed away in 2008 after a long struggle with substance abuse. Carlos, the brother of Ramon Moya, lost his life to an accidental overdose in 2019. Both men left behind family, friends, and a daughter who loved her father Carlos deeply. Though their lives ended too soon, their stories continue to inspire a mission rooted in hope, healing, and recovery.
